The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
In that CD to Fiddler's Bid, Around The World, track number 6, they play a song I know with the name "The High Road To Linton". 7 minutes and 50 seconds out in the song it start. Is that a part of "The Devil In The Kitchen", or...?
Re: The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
Gard, I know of Fiddlers Bid, although I don't know the track. It's quite common to insert a fiddle tune in a song to break it up a bit. Where Fiddlers Bid come from (Shetland/Scotland) High Road to Linton is still known as High Road to Linton, so I guess Devil in the Kitchen is just the name they have given to the bigger arrangement, of which HRTL is just a part.

"The devil in the kitchen" is usually a strathpey-well, at least the version I know. High Road to Linton is a reel.

As Bren suggests, the tune is probably part of a set.

"Fiddler's Bid" don't do songs - they play tunes. I'll listen to the track tonight, and have a look at the sleeve notes. That might help clear things up for you.
Re: The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
Devil in the Kitchen and High Road To Linton are very common tunes to play together. Most people I've heard never play one without the other, especially pipers.
Re: The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
Track#6 is listed is as follows:
"Catriona Jig / Da Brig / Da Full Rigged Ship / Devil In The Kitchen / Pinch Of Snuff / High Road To Linton".
All listed as "trad" except "Devil In The Kitchen" -W.Ross, arranged J.S.Skinner.
Re: The High Road To Linton as The Devil In The Kitchen?
I don't have the CD-cover, or, I have it, but where.... I just have the tracks on the computer, and I haven't written all the names, just "Catriona Jig / Devil In the Kitchen", so... If anyone know where there is sheet music to Catriona Jig, I'd like to know, please!
