old-time fiddle

old-time fiddle

I am usually an Irish-style fiddler but am taking part in an old-time fiddle course from 1-5 April in England run by Kate Lissauer. Can anyone recommend some recordings of old-time fiddle music available to buy on the 'net ?

Also are any of you out there going to this course? It is run by Sorefingers and is the Bluegrass/Old-time Summer School in England.

Cheers

Boo

Also - thanks to all for the help with the bowing technique.

Re: old-time fiddle

A few that comes to my mind are: Kitty Puss: old time fiddle music from Kentucky by Buddy Thomas.

Pretty much anything by Gid Tanner and his Skillit Lickers,

There is a CD called: Music from the Lost Provinces: old time string bands,

Jay Unger has some good cd's, a good one is his Civil War Classics. There's some great old time tunes there. Most of all the above can be gotten on Amazon.com.

There are also a number of web sites out there. A good one is:

www.oldtimemusic.com

A couple of sting bands that have some good recordings out are:

Sweet Song String band at http://home.earthlink.net/~otfiddler

Prairie Land String Band at http://www.prairielandstringband.com
Prairie Land is the string band I use to be in.

I have quite a bit of old time music info on my website at:

http://www.geocities.com/flyinfiddler

Hope this helps some.

Oh yeah, please don't confuse bluegrass with old time. Lot's of people do. Bluegrass is1930's.
