Look out you guys, the big hairy flute-playing Anglo push-fiddle guy's coming over. I got a great deal on BA -- $318 RT to Heathrow. You've got a couple of months to figure out where you're going to hide while I'm there. hahahaha
Veeery cool! I'll have to look into that, I may have to take advantage of that deal...wonder if it's good for when we try for a The Session session in Ireland?
Heh, I don't like waiting in lines, or sitting in traffic jams, thanks anyway. The whole state of Montana has fewer people than Denver. How about we all just move to Galway or Ennis?
Good idea Will, moving to Ennis is exactly what I had in mind actually -- at least for most of November anyway.
BTW -- if anyone has any leads for me on a small house or cottage or something in Ennis to rent while I'm there -- that would be very much appreciated. You can contact me off list maybe... thanks.
hahahaha... yep, you better tell everyone at Hughses... staff, swamp guy -- everyone, to go on holiday for the month of November because I could show up any time hahahaha.
My instruments are carry-on. And when I get there they don't part from me except when I shower. It's a fool-proof plan -- no one wants to be anywhere near me when I shower -- it's very frightening -- especially to delicate instrument thieves.
Hehe you get to go to Ireland and sit in sessions where there's a bunch of streetwise 5-year-olds playing 15000 tunes you've never even heard at top speed in perfect rhythm and clean, faultless technique. Good luck!
I know, Dow, I've been suficiantly humilified already. I figure I'm playing at about an 12 or 13 year old's level now, so only half of em will be playing circles around me this time.
Dow - if you follow jack's links through, and listen to his samples, you might realise that yer man is a collossal flute player.
But no doubt, to a man of your mega-talent, which is so far beyond the conception of we mere mortals, that we can't even grasp the idea of music, please, please! let us grovel before thee, that you may deem us worthy of fighting over the scraps from your table, o most holy of the holy, Dow.
Showers and Jack's humidity...now there's some mental images I won't be forgetting in a hurry... If you want to stay in Corofin, stay at the Irish rent-a-cottage thingers up Corofin Mtn, Jack (heated floors up there, it's lovely) -- and say hello to Paddy and Mary from Zina and Pete and please give them our love and regards. But I suppose you'll want to stay in Ennis proper.
Danny, of course I've listened to Jack's samples. When I get round to it I want to buy his CD. He's awesome, (even if he is an anglo player) BTW as far as I'm aware, I've never implied that I have "mega talent" - where are you getting that from? It's going to take me a lot of years if I'm ever to be able to get to the standard of the likes of Jack, say, another 15-20 years if I'm realistic?...and probably you as well, altho' I've never heard your playing, I'm just guessing. I'm sure that if you get a copy of the Mighty Craic you'll agree. What's with the lame sarcasm? Are you trying to wind me up and get a rise out of me? Or are you just making a public performance of picking on me for no reason whatsoever? Sheesh, and then you wonder why I enjoy winding you up
And for the record, Jack knows I like his music because I e-mailed him a while back and told him so, and asked about his CD. He'll vouch for that if you ask him. I've never met Jack but I'm willing to bet that he wouldn't jump to the same conclusions about my post that you have, i.e. whatever between-the-lines message you imagine might imply something about my standard of playing. The fact that you've managed to dream this up out of nowhere says more about your way of thinking than it does about me, I'm sure.
Jack - just thought I'd mention it, but Heathrow is not actually IN Ireland! Hope you've got enough money for the flight to Dublin or Shannon. It'll be nearly as much as the one from across the pond!
You can fly from London to Dublin for about £1 with Ryanair on a good day so it won't be that dear. You have to change airports, of course(Stansted) but it's not that difficult. I'm sure that the regular airlines will have competitive prices too, if you plan ahead.
Right John, there's a shuttle that runs out to Stansted, and we're organizing everything way in advance -- including car hire and mobile. We'll use Ennis as our home base while we're there and make excursions to meet up with friends around the area. I'm jazzed! Can't wait, I haven't been there since 98.
I wish I knew who danny and Dow were talking about... some guy named Jack Samples? I've never heard of him. I wonder if he's related to that famous stripper -- Candy Samples.
So Jack, what's your plan? I'm in Ennis at the moment but will be gone tomorrow. I'll be in Sligo town during the first week of August. Hope you'll arrive in this tiny country before I'll be back to England. I need someone to drink whiskey together with.
Jack--
I just got back from Ennis w/my friend *sigh* and while we were there we stayed in the Abbey Tourist Hostel. Apparently, they rent out rooms for 60, 70, 80 euro a week.
Hope this helps, and have a fabulous trip! Stop by Cruise's too!
Jack - Out of curiosity and in good faith, I clicked your website 'Tipsyhouse', to have a browse. Then I got a warning about 'Homeland Securities and FBI website agents watching my every move on your website. I'm sure it's a joke. But was it really considered the best way to welcome people to your website? Rest assured, I didn't stay very long! I hope you find a warmer welcome in Ireland!
I believe they are. It might say at their website: www.abbeytouristhostel.com.
Post if you find out, b/c that's exactly my plan for next summer!
Cheers.
Jack, nice thing about the Abbey Hostel is that 1) it's almost right across the street from Cruise's, and 2) it's next to the library, where the free computer access is.
Free internet??? You mean I'll be able to keep in touch with you lot while I'm there? Just think -- you almost had a holiday from me to look forward to.
I'm going to IRELAND!!! yeah!!!!!

Re: I'm going to IRELAND!!! yeah!!!!!
Unless you live in Montana...the leg out to Denver or Salt Lake (or anywhere else) will cost you more than the overseas flight. Sigh.
