would anyone take their musical instrument along on a camping holiday. We're off to the other side of the loch and nowhere near habitation." what would the team think ?"( bit like gardeners question time this) about taking music along and if they were in favour which instruments and why , or why not if thatis the case , yours worzel
Several years ago, my husband and I went camping in Maine. I couldn't bear the thought of being without an instrument for 2 whole weeks, so I took my smaller harp. We left in in the tent, in it's case, (protected from moisture) in the shade (protected from heat and sun). It was fine. Plus my teacher and her husband camp at the Catskills (Irish Arts Week) and always do fine with their instruments in the car with the windows open. I think they'd be cooler in the tent rather than the car, though.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be using it. 'tis the Grand Piano that was smuggled up from Cork. Ask Zina, she'll remember the episode, I'm sure. Say hello to the highlands for me.
I do indeed remember, and that was when Joe was nigh on unanimously voted Glee Club Lifetime President.
My friend Emily Bowman takes along a $30 fiddle with a child-sized bow when she's traveling and doesn't want to take one of her "real" instruments (she fiddles, but she's also a fine violist that I expect will be quite famous some day). My favorite was when she took it along on a rafting trip.
moran taing , I'll say hello to the highlands for you Joe, and send you some heather in August if you want. The fiddle and wee bow sounds a great idea. I was going to say sounds good , but it won't with me .....yet!
I hope you all have a peaceful summer, with no midges at all yours worzel
I always take one or more instruments when I go camping. Usually a mandolin and a blackwood flute.
Will you have a vehicle with you? Cold and damp at night and heat in the daytime are easily overcome if you have a vehicle with you - as follows:
When not in use, I always leave the instruments inside the vehicle, out reach of the sun, in the boot (trunk/luggage compartment). If we leave the camp and if I am not taking the instrument or the vehicle with me, I leave the instrument in its case, wrapped inside clothing or a sleeping bag, and in the bottom of the luggage compartment. Experience shows that even on those sunny days when the inside of the vehicle reaches painfully high temperatures, an instrument insulated like this will stay nice and cool. I have been doing this for several years with the said mandolin and flute, and neither has suffered any sort of damage at all.

Re: camping holiday
I went into the camping store and said "I want to buy a tent"
"To camp?", asked the salesman
So I said in a deeper masculine voice ""I want to buy a tent"
