Re: World Championships

I like the idea of a Grupai Cheoil competition - basically a session competition. But then again I'm not too into competitiveness in this music...would be fun, though.

Re: World Championships

What - no comments from all those who are against competition in music? I see it only costs £25.oo to enter !! Is this for real? Does the phrase "Fleadh Ceol na hEireann" not mean anything to the organisers?

I looked in me diary, but I'm down for a beard trim from 22 to 25 July this year.

Re: World Championships

Hi all,

World Championships? I think we are being taken in by the usual McPeake Blarney.
Under what governing body and how to qualify etc?
I think I will hold the Universe Championships next year in Dundalk anyone want to enter!!
There are also weeklong workshops which cost a long way over the odds compared to the likes of Clancy week or Drumshanbo and so on.

From what I can gather from what I have read and been told bout this event, it is open to the Ulster Scotch to enter events, ie Highland piping, dancing and so on. The Ulster Scotch Society are part to the Orange Order who are very much responsible for suppression of Gaelic Culture including Language, Sport and Irish Dance and Traditional Music!!!

They have also used this platform as a way of obtaining funds and bull shitting everyone into the process.

The only true World Championships in Trad Music is the All-Ireland Fleadh and I don’t think a sham of an event organized by the McPeakes will hold a candle to that. So please don’t be fooled anyone could run an event and claim it the World championships if the above is the case.

Something to consider!!!

Re: World Championships

"The best exponents of Irish Traditional music and dance will come together to adjudicate these competitions and to select the ultimate champion. There will not only be one adjudicator, but several who will sit independently and adjudicate your performance. The criteria is (sic) much more demanding than other competitions. However, this is due to it being the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. You will receive the most coveted title of all- recognised by all, that no-one can take from you. You will be WORLD CHAMPION. Whether you are interested in solo or group competition, this is the competition for you!!"

I dunno - how can you possibly argue with that?!
Joe Quinn, the Solo Instrumental Bodhran World Championship is yours for the taking...

Re: World Championships

it is NOT the most coveted title of all, that's given by the fleadh. I'm with glensideboy
