Summer Solctice Festival - Anybody going to be there?
Are any session members from Southern California going to be at the Summer Solctice festival this weekend? http://www.ctmsfolkmusic.org/festival/2004/Solstice/Schedule.asp Is there anyone from the site that I could meet at one of the sessions there? I'd love to meet someone from the site!
Also, I just wanted to tell you all that at this festival, I'm going to get to play in a session with SEAMUS CONNOLLY, and take workshops from him afterwards!!!!! This is a first time thing for me, so I am extremely excited! David Greenberg will also be there, (I'll be taking a workshop from him too) as well as bohola and the Barra Macneils!

You're going to love your workshop with Seamus. He is a fabulous teacher, and a fine human being. Have fun!
Kyle Macneill played my fiddle once, when I was up in Cape Breton. I'd hoped some of his talent would seep into my instrument and magically transform my playing, but alas...I'm still as mediocre as ever.

I know of several thesession members that will be there, but most of us SoCal people lurk more than we type.
It seems like you haven't been to this festival before. The festival itself is great, but be sure to be at the sessions at the hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. They are the highlights of this festival. They usually go very late, and don't really get going 'til 10 or 11, so plan on some late nights.
I'll be out at the festival both days and at both hotel sessions. Look for a fiddler with really long hair. I hope to meet you (and any other thesessioner) there.

I went to part of the festival (Saturday) last year, but I didn't take any workshops, and I didn't know enough tunes to play in the session. I am really looking forward to it this year, and I'll be going for both days!
Hotel sessions? What hotel? Tell me more! I didn't know anything about this! It probably wouldn't be an option for me since one of my parents would have to stay with me and take me home. I live in Santa Paula, which is about 45 minutes away from Calabasas.
Well, I hope to meet you there! I'm 15, and I'll be wearing a green Solas shirt and playing a whistle.

Hi Max,
Officially, the sessions at the hotel start at 8, but since many people go to the Sat evening concert, it really gets going only after that. However, there are usually some people wandering around the hotel looking for some fellow musicians.
Try to talk your parents into it. Promise them to mow the lawn for a year, wash their car, do the laundry... anything.

Well, I asked her, and she said no. I really didn't think there was much chance. Don't worry though, in a couple years, when I can drive, I'll be staying for the whole thing!
Please do see if you can spot me out, I'll keep my eyes open for both of you too. I'm dying to meet you! I've never met enyone from this site before! I'll be at the daytime sessions, will both of you?

Definitely at the first one. As for the second one, I don't know yet. It is really bad scheduling to have Seamus Connolly do his half-hour performance at the same time as the Irish jam session... ;-(

Yeah, that's a bummer. I figure that since I'm playing the first one with him, and taking workshops from him, it would be better to go to the second session. But you never know. I'll probably just end up doing half of what I've planned, there's just so much there!

Oh, don't worry, I'll be getting a big dose of bohola! Not only will I get to play in the second session with them, but I'm seeing them in concert the day after the festival! I won't be taking any of their workshops though, except possibly one from Sean Cleland.

Well, Sean's intermediate workshop is right at the same time as one of Seamus's (one that I was planning on taking). There is a beginners workshop open though, taught by Sean so maybe I'll try that. I'm probably more begginer than intermediate anyway.

I'm going to have more fun than I have in a long time! I'd absolutley love to tell everyone about it. Would it be rude to post a whole discussion about it once I get home, or do you think that would OK?

I highly recommend Sean's workshops! He is a great player and an insightful teacher! Have fun there!
