There has been some discussion recently about the composers of certain tunes. 'Sweeneys buttermilk' was in fact composed by Charlie Lennon. I was unable to dig up my book of Lennon tunes, but I found it else where. The same tune is in Bulmer & Sharpleys 'Music of Ireland, Vol 4' published in 1974. It is No. 14 and as I suspected its title is Charlie Lennons No 2. (CL No. 4 is a great tune also but I don't know what happened to 2 & 4). In the acknowledgements, Charlie also get the credit for composing it.
It was pointed out that I was confusing it with Buttermilk Mary, but said tune appears in O'Neills as a jig!!
McGlinchey has composed another couple of tunes which I am trying to locate at the moment. I'll post them if I find them
I was looking at Bulmer & Sharpley's tonight & that tune is listed as Charlie Lennon's. But I really don't think Charlie Lennon wrote it. I know that Charlie Lennon wrote "Kilty Town" which I posted here "A Smile from Shiela (Sile)" "Ten Pins" and a reel called "Buttermilk Mary" which is both the title of a jig & a reel. Kind of like the "Swallowtail".
My main question is not about McGlinchly or Lennon though - I'm curious why 3 new discussions have been started about the same topic in less than a week.
I'm curious about that too, Brad. I really think it would have been better to have just one discussion.
In future, if anyone has comments about something that's being discussed, please, please, please post your comments to the relevant discussion instead of starting a whole new discussion.
To get back to YOUR main question, yes I started 2 new discussions.
Being the new boy on the block, I *$£?ed up and didn't follow your procedures. Please please please please please please forgive me in the gentlest way and I promise not to do it again
