I am looking for software for my Windows 2000 PC which will let me enter notes with the mouse, playback, transpose keys, and print out scores. I formerly used Musictime which seemed to meet all my needs, but I don't know if that is compatible with Win2K.
Have you have heard a software programme called "Cubase"? well its been around for years and you could say its the industry standard. I t comes in many versions, it sounds like you only need the simple bog standard version . . . . it will do everything you want it to do . . . . try looking for, "cubasis" or "cubase lite". It sells for about
also I just looked up "notation machine" on google and it's not what I was suggesting so I don't think I have the correct name. I'll see if I can figure it out and let you know.
I don't think so... All I really remember is that you could make scores with it and you insert the notes by clicking the mouse where you wanted them... I may have a copy on my computer at home still. It was shareware and I didn't end up registering it so I'm not sure it's still there.
Meowguy . . . I have a copy of cubasis notation . . . I may be able to download it to you if you send me your email address . . .you will have to use The Session web site to do it . I can't promise any thing but it may be worth a try.
I use Finale...the fullblown really expensive thing. There's a free version called Finale Notepad, which might be enough for your uses...and there are other cheaper ones like Finale Allegro. Notepad can be downloaded directly from their site: www.codamusic.com
I can thoroughly reccoment Melody Assistant. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME EMAILING for help All you'l get is surcastics.
The help that downloads with it answere almost any question you want. One tip to rem. is that if you omitt any of the slurs you cannot go back & put them in & NO HELP. I know.Shade to the end from the end of the faulty bars, copy. erase these faulty ones. Enter the correction & past the remainder back in their place.
If you download a midi file & very many other formats it will put them on screen as a staff . You can transpose change speed, change instruments ( for playing ) Very good for " ear " players, slow down & play from the screen.
It downloads free for testing ( from France last known cost Eu18
ABCMUS ( $24 )is a programe that you paste the abc from the session on. It will save as a midi file, the other one will pick it up for note playing. Endles changing of the instr. speed key etc
Best of luck J. b.
I have been using MUSEDIT for a few years now, after trying a few others. I think it's one of the best. It will do everything you are requiring (inc either entering notes via the keyboard or mouse/transposing ) and more....Once bought you get free upgrades and you can always email for help. Definatley worth checking out.

Melody Assistant ($15), and it's big brother Harmony Assistant($65) are great. The help files are a little strange, since it is an english version of a program written in france, and the menu layouts are not "microsoft standard". They both have features found in programs costing LOTS more. They have an online forum that has been very helpful to me. Harmony Assistant will even accept direct MIDI device input.
Good Luck

I ran across something called "notation machine" (i think). The only thing I'm not sure of is if you can transpose easily.

Musedit is excellent - I got it a while ago and it's easy to do basic things and get started.
