i'm the new guy

i'm the new guy

Just joined up and thought i'd say hallo.....hallo.
My name's Erin and I'm based in SE Queensland, Australia.I may know some of you through the scene here but I'm kinda new to trad. playing. i've been playing percussion and kit for years but have only come at the bodhran in the last 7-8 months really. so be kind! I sing a little as well.
G'day.

Re: i'm the new guy

Hello, Erin! Welcome to The Session. I hope that you have a thick skin; it's no use being a thin-skinned bodhran player! ;) It could be worse though, you could have picked up the banjo. Heh. Look forward to reading your posts!

Re: i'm the new guy

Bodherin,
Here's one:
question: "What's the best way to play a bodhran?"
answer: "With a pen knife"

Re: i'm the new guy

That's an "old warhorse" of a joke. I'd give him a row but you did ask, Erin. ;-)

Re: i'm the new guy

Q. What's the difference between a bodhran and a Radox bath?
A. One bucks up the feet.

Re: i'm the new guy

snicker. That's the same concept as "what's the difference between a 3 ring circus and a whorehouse" but I'm afraid the punchline is unprintable. Welcome to the session Erin.

Re: i'm the new guy

Welcome, Erin. I don't have a bodhran joke ready, so let me just say - nice to virtually meet you.

Re: i'm the new guy

Welcome Erin to the Session. My significant other is a bodhran player and these guys on the Session don't really mean anything bad they say about bodhran players. Sure its the only thing that keeps them playing at a steady pace, otherwise they'd run away with themselves!
cheers
deirdre

Re: i'm the new guy

Okay, then - what's the difference between a bodhran and a trampoline? - You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline.
(To be fair, that started life as a banjo joke.)

Re: i'm the new guy

mmmhhh - the marching piper made me think about natural reactions on attacks: hide or run ... so, thats why irish pipers sit? to take cover?

so welcome erin here in this community. the bodhran is the highest estimated irish traditional instrument indeed... ;o)
