Haughs of Cromdale

Haughs of Cromdale

In a different thread, "Jorg" mentioned a strathspey called "The Haughs of Cromdale." Forgive me for raising a "Scottish" question in this rather Hiberno-centric quarter (hey, I play lots of Irish stuff, too), but if anyone is familiar with Andy Stewart's song of that same name, can they also tell me why the melody he uses isn't (or sure doesn't seem to be) the dance melody? Or perhaps the better question is....just what IS the name of the tune he uses as his melody (Sean O Riada and Agus Ceoltoiri Cualann recorded that same tune in a set with "The O'Neill's March," but they simply called the set "O'Neill's March" -- no name given to this second tune). Any help would be appreciated. (And for anyone remotely interested, the "Haughs of Cromdale" celebrates a Scottish victory over an English army -- just about every major Scottish clan is mentioned somewhere in the lyrics.)

Re: Haughs of Cromdale

Hi Dan,
Your right. Both of them are the same basic tune though Andy Stewart changes slightly thr melody and the rythm. You can also listen to a even more Scottish version (if possible) of it by "The Tannahill Weavers"

Want to hear something funny? The case of Sean O'Riada is exactly the same than that one by the Chieftains: O'Neill's March and the untitled "Haughs..."

Nice tune to be played just between an air and a reel, isn't it?

Bye mate.
