Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

I don't need anything fancy, just a simple site for simple whistles ^_^ Thanks

www.chiffandfipple.com

It has a message board specifically for whistles, reviews of inexpensive and high end whistles. Basically, more whistle info. than a rational person should have to deal with... :-)

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

Although Chiff and Fipple is the king, there are other good sites.

Try:

http://www.tinwhistletunes.com
http://fingertrip.net/ (great links page)
http://www.tinwhistler.com/music/
http://www.whistleworkshop.co.uk/ (maintained by our own Dave Auty)

Try a google search too.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

I find the best place to site my tin whistle is between my mug and an ash tray, so that it is easy to hand but unlikely to roll off onto the floor.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

The best whistle tutorial site is Nigel Gatherer's "The Scottish Whistle": http://users.argonet.co.uk/users/gatherer/whistle/tut.html
You'll learn all the basics through his online tutorial. Very concise and helpful. Well, Scottish..., but he also includes some Irish tunes. And once you learn the basics, you can learn and play almost any Irish tune by yourself.

Nigel was actually my first whistle tutor, and without his lessons I wouldn't be still playing and enjoying music, I think.

Good luck!

Nigel is one of the best tutors at Edinburgh ALP. He teaches mandolin as well. I was too far advanced by the time these classes started so I haven't been taught by him personally(Not that this means I'm particularly good either, mind you :-) ). However, his students reckon he's excellent. There's a lot of good tunes on Nigel's site(inc abcs) if you investigate it thoroughly.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

Yes, Nigel's lessons and online tutorials are mostly for complete beginners. But, you know, the basics are really really important. I've just look through his whistle tutorial, and I can tell you not the beginners but intermediate players will get something from it. The readings and exercises will help you a lot. He is also a nice web designer and writer, so you won't be disappointed with his site.

The Big Whistle Co. U.K. have a selection, helping me immensley, answering questions on the phone and even blowiing whistles down the 'phone line for me to see the difference between a a high and low whistle. The high D purchased was very good for my staus as a learner and hopefully beyond. I seem to remember their adrress as lancashire, but here is their internet address:www.bigwhistle.co.uk

if you go to google and type in tin whistle mp3s,then go to the first site which is the google directory,it will give you a bundle of great sites with mp3s so that you can hear what the tunes are meant to sound like.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

Arrrgh, there are too many types!! I only need one, too e_e;;;

Ummm, which type of whistle is the one that you'd reccomend? I'll take the one by the most votes, possibly, although I kind of like the brass ones with the colored mouth pieces, my teacher has one.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good site for tin whistles?

Try www.whistleshop.com if you're in the US or www.bigwhistle.com if you are in the EU (although either one will ship overseas with a minimum purchase of XX amount).
