He plays flute(s) and pipes, and has a week long summer festival called Boxwood in Nova Scotia. (Joannie Madden and Hamish Moore will be teaching there this year too I see.)
I saw the ensemble once and really loved the music. In addition to the flute/pipes there's guitar, bass and percussion--all acoustic and with a lot of Scottish, Cape Breton, and Quebec influence.
(Apologies in advance if I didn't do the web link thing right)
Chris Norman is one of the most remarkable flute players on the planet right now. I highly recommend his CD "The Flower of Port Williams."
One of the things that Norman can do like no other is to make a simple tune beautiful and intricate. He doesn't do this with flashy ornaments or lightening quick melodies (though he could), he does it with total mastery over every nuance of the sound he produces. It is an amazing experience to hear him play.
I'm not looking to start a debate about Chris because I know pure drop IT musicians don't necessarily go for his playing because he is not Irish, and he has never claimed to be. However, as a musician, he is good at what he does, and if you ever meet him, he is an even nicer guy.
