Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Hi All,
As you know my name is Gian Marco, but almost no one call me Gian Marco, and no one call me Gian.
I'm known as Marco or Marco "Pantera" ( Panther ).
I want tell you the story of the Pantera nickname:
Many yeras ago, maybe 30, I was playing with the flute "The Pink Panther" on the stage of the parish theatre and I crashed down into the prompter's box.
As a result of this, the people begun to call me "Pink Panther".
But "Marco Pink Panther" is too long, and the time changed it to "Marco Pantera".
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Pantera was the name of one of my favourite metal bands when I was a young 'un. They had songs like "Time for Primal Concrete Sledge" and "Cowboys from Hell".
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Oh it's going to take me ages to get used to this. I hate change! Marco Pantera's a bit long for a nickname isn't it? It doesn't work that way over here in Oz, where you simply add an "o" to your name, as in "Davo", "Benno" etc. Doesn't work very well for Marco though, "Marco-o"? Rosa wouldn't suit you I don't think.... What about "Pinkie"?
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Marco Pantera is actually a bit long, my friends call me Marco or Pantera or Panther.
Now I'm Gian Marco again , but you all have to promise don't call me "Gian".
The only Gian I know is a stupid & bastard matherfucker,
and a poor hopeless flute player.
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
That's just too disturbing - you can't change back now. It's too late. I'm going to call you "Pants" from now on 'cause it's got a catchy ring to it. BTW you keep saying that you think your English is bad, but I don't think that's the case ',:-}
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
I go to this fancy music school but there's no' a music. I say to the teacher, I wanna sheet on the desk. She say "You had better no' sheet on the desk, you son an' a bitch!"
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Dow, that's nearly right... but in Oz the tradition is only to add an extra syllable to one-syllable names; two syllable names have to be reduced to one.
Dave does indeed become "Davo", Blue becomes "Bluey", John "Johnno" and Hugh "Hughie", but Peter becomes "Pete", Michael is "Mick", Steven "Steve", Neville "Nev", etc.
We even do it to two-syllable Brid-ie - she's "Brides" or "Beebs" 8>)
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
This is great, we can talk about whatever the hal we like and nobody can complain because Pants has voided his own thread by changing his name back. Tish you must get to a session soon or I'm gonna forget what you look like. You can't be that busy surely!
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
I will be at the first Durty Nellie's I can manage, Dow-san, promise - my problem is the old day job thingie competing with my after-hours practice and chart-writing time for jobs that always fall on weekends. I am really starting to feel totally session-deprived.
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Mrs Addams LOL, my students keep calling me "Sir" and it makes me squirm. I keep wanting to say "it's Mark to you". I should tell them I will only answer to "Dow".
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
This is weird I've just had 2 silly conversations at once, one with someone who wants to tell me about the Australian nicknaming system and the other who suggests that he might be my clone. Well, I've had a tiring day (scary job interview which went a little bit shite for my liking) so I'm off to bed. See you at Durty's Mads.
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Awww... he has too, Dow. Gian Marco, if we make you an honorary aussie, would you change it back? MarcoPantera is rather distinguished, don't mind us calling you Pants 8>)
Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
Hi MarcoPantera,
I've used so many of your transcriptions over the years - great work.
Here's one I'd like you transcribe if you wouldn't mind. It's the first tune in this old video of Brendan Hendry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTiek_ZKLpQ
Unfortunately, I don't know the title.
thanks,

Tish-oo, gesundheidt, yes.
Tish is an abbreviation, actually - it's Mrs Addams to you lot >8>)
Hmm, good point, Dow, I don't know what the Oz rule for a three syllable name is!

Re: Changing of Loggin Name ( from Gian Marco to MarcoPantera )
It would have to be "Mads" 'cause that's 1 syllable and would follow your rule.

Heh, can't type fast enough at this hour of night - yes, I've had "Mads" before today.
Make sure you tell us what you get for your birthday.
And I think "Pants" is pretty good - very Oz.

...and don't forget, you don't wanna be linked to Gian Samarco, who played "Adrian Mole" (maybe you're too young to remember that!)
On a more serious note - do you know Sara Madeira? I think she may be a mutual friend of ours.....
