We have a Contra dance band playing Celtic music. 3-4 fiddles, harp, guitar, banjo, mandolin, sometimes a pennywhistle and drum. We need a name for the band. We live in SE Alaska where it rains 160 inches a year. I thought about Rain Dance but that doesn't sound very Celtic. Does anyone know how to put that in Gaelic? Other suggestions?
(because 160 inches = 13 foot 4 - but don't go all stupid and tell people that at every concert you do, cos that would be tacky and crappy, and have people puking in the auditorium. Just call it "13 Foot 4" and leave it at that, and if anyone is dull enough to ask why, then suddenly think of something else to talk about)
If I ever manage to start a trad band, I'm going to call it "Na dTonnta" (pronounced "done-ta"), meaning "The Waves"....
You can't have it therefore.....its taken.....!!!!! (knowing my luck, probably by someone else already).....
The Drizzly Bears?
After The Deluge?
The Cumulative Nimbus's?
Missed My Clouds?
The Phis Fhliuch's?
The Half Baked Alaskans?
The Rusty Huskies?
Soggy Bog?
Watertight Leprechauns?
Soak on the Water?
McCloud ? (not Jean Cloud van Dam though - reserved for a Belgian band)
Drenched wenches? (oops, more for a girlsband I suppose).
I love the Southeastern Exposure idea. It's absolutely brilliant. Well, Riverpants is not worse.
Awww Janek!! *blush!* I have this image of a woman lifting up her long skirt to reveal on her left ankle & calf a shamrock tattoo, ie Southeastern Exposure. Too corny/oblique? Maybe an umbrella in there too....
"Alaskan Lads" or "The Lads of Alaska" ... "Alaskan Lasses" maybe??? (do Alaskan audiences and dancers understand the sublime humour, when an all male band calls itself "The Lasses" ??? - À LA SKA (...no, that fits to some different style) "The Wetnecks" - "The Humours of Huskies" ..... the storming brains are a beat weak today, sorry ... ;o)

Re: Need a band name
If it rains that much you must have lots of rivers - why not call yourselves 'Riverdance'?

Re: Need a band name
If you play on mainland Europe, you'll have to convert it to metres.
Oh, how about The meterologists?

Re: Need a band name
With that much rain it has to be "The Poor Mouth" after the novel by Myles na Gopaleen in which it never stops raining.
