I'm looking for some help evaluating an old 5-keyed, woodenflute I have accquierd .It was made by Starck, Barnes & Sons, London and is the key of either F or F#. Any help or comments about the flute would be helpfull.
Cheers Matheu
I'd send this question into the folks on the woodenflute.com email list - Dave Migoya and others could help you out with a price evaluation if that's what you're after. They could also tell you all about the maker, his history, etc...
I do think the price, unless the maker is remarkably valued, will not be as high as a D flute since it's such a rarely used key (I've seen Rudall and Rose flutes in F or F# (depending on if you're playing it at A=452) go for only about a $1,000 when they're in perfect condition compared to more like $3,000 for D Rudalls..
