Ginley's Reels #1 and #2 as played by Jean-Michel Veillon
Ginley's Reels #1 and #2 as played by Jean-Michel Veillon
I have transcribed Ginley's #1 & #2 reels from the album ER PASKER by Jean-michel Veillon. These are outstanding reels that were virtually unknown before Jean-Michel collected them from Tom Ginley. I don't know abc notation so I can't add them to this site, but I'll be glad to e-mail copies to anyone who writes to me.
Re: Ginley's Reels #1 and #2 as played by Jean-Michel Veillon
Precision :
Jean Michel VEILLON know reading music, but it's difficult for him to write music.(said by himself in November 2003, i listen with my ear) ( like a lot of musician in Britanny, which play very well but only by ear)
a wonderfull person indeed...
Richard mentioned 'as played by' J-M and 'collected from' Tom Ginley'.
the first one is identified as 'the Starry Lane to Monaghan' written by Ed Reavy.
It seems to me that Emin tunes with occasional G# is like a 'trademark' for reavy tunes.
anyone else?
the second ginley-tune is also a Reavy's: 'the Light in Dennis Munion's window'
Joe Reavy says about these 2 tunes:
starry lane to Monaghan:
" ... Barnagrove is near the Monaghan border. On a starry night, so the story goes,
one could look down this lane and see clear through to the neighboring county.
Ed's mother came from Monaghan. To this day, he has a special fondness for Monaghan people ..."
and the light in Dennis Munion's window:
" ... Dennis lived along the "starry" lane. His place was near Aunt Ann's home.
As children, Ed and his brother George would often walk Ann home when night came on.
Ann had keen eyesight and was able to see Dennis' place long before
the boys could. She said she could always tell the time of night it was by
the light in Dennis Munion's window ... "

Anyway, it doesn't change the quality of this musician.
