amazin slowdowner

amazin slowdowner

Has any had a probem with this. I installed a demo version of the amazin slowdowner and it worked fine. When tried to make a CD from wavefiles on the harddrive I get buffer underun and I couldn't back up any audio CDs past track 1, again getting buffer underun errors. I removed the slow downer program and can again make backup CDs, but still get bufferunderun problems when attempting to make a CD from wavefiles on the hard drive. My system is Win98se, 1GHz proc., 384 MBRAM using Roxio easyCD creator. . I used to be able to make CD from wave files, but cann't now. I know this is not a music type discussion, but i know that members of this site use the slowdowner program, this is where I found out about it. Thanks

Re: amazin slowdowner

May not be relevant to this issue, but your 384MB RAM may be a bit too much for Win 98SE to handle (and other DOS-based versions of Windows prior to NT, 2000 and XP as well). I wonder if this could be connectd to the buffer underrun? Don't forget that working on big audio (and video) is very memory and processor intensive.
Apparently, for deep technical reasons the efficiency of those older Windows OSs falls off when the memory gets past about 160MB, whereas with the NT-based OSs (2000, XP) this is not so.

Re: amazin slowdowner

Can anyone tell me where to get a copy of "amazin speeder upper"? There's some tunes off Martin Hayes I'd like to learn

Re: amazin slowdowner

Hi Michael, ever tried it with some psychotrophic stuff to slow down your brain a bit? even practising the slo mo meditation exercises of tai chi master gong shikkung might help in this case...

Re: amazin slowdowner

I used the A.S. to speed up a recording of myself on banjo, to get a feel for what some stuff from sh**t m*sic might sound like at full speed. The result sounded like the Vulcan traditional instrument Spock sometimes played on Star Trek (anyone remember what it was called?)

Re: amazin slowdowner

Yes! - Vulcan Lyre, that's it! So, it needs to be asked: can these be brought to sessions? Can they become part of the tradition?

Re: amazin slowdowner

OK, what exactly do people have against Martin Hayes playing slowly? It's not like it's boring to listen to! He's so good, he can make anything sound interesting. And he does play fast too. Sometimes.

Re: amazin slowdowner

Martin can play however he wants to and still have more soul than most others at any speed. I've known Martin personally for many years now, and I find him to be a gentleman of the highest order. He's not only down to earth and genuine, but he is also one of the most generous people in the ITM scene that I have ever encountered.

Martin Hayes reads this?

Oh... I forgot to mention... Martin Hayes reads this site too. hahahaha

"but even i sound good playing at that speed"

OK, its not all about speed you know! Just listen to all the subtle little things that Martin does to make the tune sounds interesting! And his awesome bowing, the way he lifts and falls is just awesome. He is one of my favorite fiddlers for sure. And he does play fast too!

"pseudo classical"

?!?!?

Re: amazin slowdowner

I have nothing against Martin Hayes ... but if Michael needs to speed up Hayes recordings to have a good practicing pace , well, go for it, there is nothing strange to me in that in the broad range of trad irish music ;o)

And I have nothing against pipes - nothing that helps, so far.

Re: amazin slowdowner

Daver, Problems I've experienced in the same vein as what you describe... If you haven't already, make sure the CD burner is on the secondary IDE connector as master, and not on the primary connector as slave to the hard drive. Also, if I ever expect problems while burning, I will choose to force the write speed down to 4x so as to avoid speed discrepancies between the devices. If the Roxio software is allowed to default to some blinding fast write speed, all manner of problems might occur. Also, if your hard drive is highly fragmented, it causes the hard drive to work harder to find all the pieces of a file that is in the process of being burned. I usually like to boot into Safe Mode to run defrag (and/or scandisk). Turn off your screen saver as well.

"sorry i expressed my "personal" opinion about Martin Hayes"

Umm, I did that to. Isn't that one of things you're supposed to be able to use this board for?
