Tune fragment ID

Tune fragment ID

Hi, I've been getting tunes from here for a while, but this is my first time posting. The tune I'm trying to ID is one that just popped into my head one day, and I have no idea where it came from. Also, I can only remember the first part of it, but I think it may go into D major from B minor in the second part. Anyway, it's a really nice tune, and I'd like to know how the second part goes. I have a feeling it may be of quebecois origin.

Here it is:
K:Bmin
F2|:BcdB FBdB|B,DFB dfbf|gfef gfef|(3gfe)fg fedc|
|BcdB FBdB|B,DFB dfbf|gfef (3gfe)fg|fedc B2 F2:|

I know very little about ABC notation but I'm pretty sure I've done the looping wrong here (Entering the F2 at both the beginning and end.) Maybe someone can tell me how this should be done.

Re: Tune fragment ID

Sorry Pat,

Couldn't find it in any of my extensive library of ABCs.

Sounds a great tune, though - it'll go moighty on the box if you can find the full version.

Re: Tune fragment ID

Nice tune. I don't recognize it, but it doesn't sound Irish (or Scottish) to me. Could it be Breton?

Re: Tune fragment ID

I did a search for the notes of the first bar |BcdB FBdB| in J-C's tune finder. No success, unfortunately.

Re: Tune fragment ID

Hi,
i agree with Gary Martin, it sounds like an Andro (breton tune).

Re: Tune fragment ID

Hey,

I don't think I've been exposed to very much Breton music, so it may not be too likely that that tradition was the source of this particular tune. It sounds as though Breton music is something I would like though. Can anyone recommend some nice minor-key Breton tunes on the database here that cover similar territory?

Re: Tune fragment ID

The first measure is the first measure of Sweeney's Wheel written by Jackie Daly, even in the same key.
