Hey All, I am a new member and I just found out that i was part Irish. I was wondering about the Irish people. How do you all live your life knowing your Irish? Also Could you help me find something about the tridtions and things like that?
Re: I am new and just found out i am part Irish!!!
Good for you! There are worse things you could discover about yourself. In terms of living your life knowing you are Irish, get used to being being extremely stoic in the face of bad times and great odds. Also, you have to pretend to like Guiness.
Re: I am new and just found out i am part Irish!!!
Ha. Figuring out the Irish people is a lesson in contradictions. And don't even start on the Irish Americans...kettle of worms there!
Zac, a lot of Corkmen would take exception to the Guiness thing. Murphy's, all the way for them. And Glauber, define "win" -- they might have the last word, but that's not necessarily winning!
StepGal, a quick trip round the Web by Google will tell you more than you ever thought you'd want to know. Check out The Irish Times and the Irish newspapers and such that publish on the Web. Take a look at http://www.celticcafe.com.

Zina,
I don't dance at a school but I have been trying everywhere to just find things about the Irish and I really want to learn how to step dance...I have always thought I was only English but after talking to my mom I found out that I was part Irish and it is very cool....All the things that have happen to me since then has been great...My friend calls me a lepricon now...I don't know if i should take it in a bad or good way...What do you think?
Re: I am new and just found out i am part Irish!!!
There's a ton of dance schools in England, if that's where you are...Anne's Place is a great place to check out for that. (Check the links page at our dance school's website, http://www.heritageirish.com)
Leprechauns were orginally very strange members of the Sidth -- not always benign!
No i am from Missori, USA! I would like to travel the world when I get older....How old are u? Where u from?...I have always wanted to learn how to play piano. Sometimes i feel like a lep. Cause I am weird lol...e-mail me sometime Sexy_Wish_Star@hotmail.com
Re: I am new and just found out i am part Irish!!!
Well, check out Anne's Place regardless, because she has listings of quite a few of the schools in NA as well!
You can find quite a bit of information about me under both the threads "Reeling All Over the World" and "who is who and who plays what" -- I'm 41, and live in Denver, Colorado -- so not terribly far from you.
You might want to pick up a pennywhistle -- it's the instrument that many Irish kids learn to play first off, sort of like recorders in grammar school here in the States.

You can also be absolutely fearless (almost reckless) in wearing green, and you get to win most discussions about Irish traditional music by default.
