Several years ago I saw a video of the Chieftans in concert. The bodhran player sang a song "The Salt". I found the words but I can't remember the tune. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Can't help you with the tune but I'm sure it was on Kevin Connef's album 'the week before easter'. I did have a tape of that but it got lost along the way.
Was it a funny (comic) song? If so,it's the one you mean.
good luck
its a slip jig in g, i first heard it from the singing of my uncle, eamon toland, as a child(way before i started playing tunes) i dont really write in abc but i'll give it a go, dgg gag fga bgg gab c.. dgg gag fga bab caf g.. 2nd part DED cag fdd DED cab c.. dgg gag fga bab caf g..
im using . as a rest
Anthony that's a familiar tune to me, too, tho I didn't have a name to call it by.
Dave, if you read abc, let us know if this is it and I'll post it in the tunes archive. My version is slightly different for the B Part. The whole tune would look like (in G maj):
Will, abc still is n't familiar to me but I've had a go at this on the fiddle and indeed it's pretty close to what I remember.
As far as I recall,it's about a tight farmer who never lets any food source go to waste, including the wife!
Great Dave, but were we on the right track? Does the tune as posted here resemble or match your recording? Let us know if we got it right or led everyone else astray.
Thanks,
Will
It's been some time since I last heard it as I don't have the tape anymore but the version posted does sound to be pretty much the same,as far as I can remember.Hope so,anyway!
