Depends. Usually once the thread has dropped off the first page, it's done, but that's not always true. If the subject is of interest to everyone, it'll usually stay alive regardless of where it is. It's always worth a look through the archives, though, there's some great stuff in there.
Blowfly - all answers to this must be qualified by a knowledge of the person giving them.
You need to bear in mind that Zina is not a real person, but is a piece of software created by Jeremy, to enable people to link to old threads, and find past topics and statistics. He has programmed her very cleverly so that she appears to be a musician, seamstress, and all round thorough-going nice person. She sends you good wishes when you are ill, she helps you find that elusive tune, she encourages you when you are down, she keeps you in touch with the current thinking on session etiquette - but she doesn't really exist.
I sometimes go into past discussions, but not often. If you look at the dates, it is normally the case that contributions have ceased for a couple of days by the time a thread drops out of the first page.

Zina - you really have to kill me now - I know too much.
Add to the old, or start anew?
Add to the old, or start anew?
Do y'all consider a discussion dead when it hits page two....or the bottom of page one?
How many delve even deeper?
I ask this because I sometimes wonder whether to post to a discussion in the above mentioned location(s), or start a new one.
What do/would you do?

If Jeremy is that good at writing software, why did he not get his Zinalee program to play the tunes in the archive instead of that rubbish midi guy

Re: Add to the old, or start anew?
Here's a tip. In order to see as many discussions as you want to on a page without having to click on Next or Previous, amend the thesession/discussion address on your browser from http://www.thesession.org/discussions/index.php to http://www.thesession.org/discussions/index.php/new?start=0&howmany=2000, for example.
This will give you a continuous scroll through the last 2000 discussions. Change the "2000" to something else if it's too much.

Zina Lee is not responding and will be shut down.

Re: Add to the old, or start anew?
If Zina Lee is shut down what will happen to that very useful .dll Will Harmon?

Re: Add to the old, or start anew?
Will Harmon is not a .dll sort! That's Sensei v. 5.3.0. And Michael isn't actually his own program, he's Curmudgeon 2.0.

I, on the other hand, believe I am no more than a programming artefact, a mere hologram, as those members who have met me will attest.
