Mandolin Jigs

Mandolin Jigs

I just uploaded a video to YouTube of myself playing the Mandolin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkLdM71aBBY

The mandolin has a nice tone, but no matter how many times we make adjustments to it, it slips back to it's original way. It was a cheap mandolin anyways, so I'm not going to bother going to a mandolin maker to fix it.

I'm getting a Shapiro mandolin around march / april or some time before the fleadh as I have requested. I tried one not long ago and it was perfect, they had a job to pull me away from it!

Re: Mandolin Jigs

I thought the YouTube was all right!

I'm used to rather noisy sessions where mandolinists can be seen hunched over their instruments looking as if several zillion volts were going through them, but are nonetheless wholly inaudible.

To listen to your solo playing was like hearing some songbird normally quite lost in the dawn chorus emerge on its own from a bush and sing of summer in full-throated ease.

Then, if it is anything special like (say) a Least Trans-Dnieprian Lunch-bird, it will evade the lenses of 5000 twitchers staked out in a shopping centre car park and step unswervingly into the jaws of a cat. :-)

...Just as well most of us are not that special, perhaps. ;-)

Re: Mandolin Jigs

I don't know whether to say thank you or to ask you to translate that for me! Ah no, thanks you! :)

Re: Mandolin Jigs

Patrick,

You might consider going to mandolincafe.com and bringing your playing to the Celtic/Irish music thread and the Song of the Week social group. there you will find a lot more mandolin players eager to help and discuss the music.

Re: Mandolin Jigs

I have a Dave Shapiro mandolin and it's a really fabulous instrument. Dave knows his woods very well and is a great craftsman. Highly recommend the instrument

Re: Mandolin Jigs

Already ordered :) Hoping to have it before the Galway fleadh. I got 1st place last year on that one I already have and I decided I may as well go for it again but would prefer to have an upgraded one. I went to Tom Cussen and he only had one left but it was already sold so I only got to test it. I thought it was amazing!
