I'm back with 3 more unidentified tunes I have heard at sessions. Since I last posted I've become a TunePal addict and it's identified nearly every tune I've needed a name for, but three tunes have slipped through. With any luck, one or more may not yet be on thesession.
The third one is the Boys of Ballisodare http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1340. I'm pretty sure the first one is one of Paddy Fahy's, but it may take some time to find it. I don't know the 2nd one.
A clean sweep! Thank you very much. That's it for unidentified tunes for now.
I suspect a lot of the ones TunePal will miss as I continue my project are a simple case of the tune being played in an alternate key. Besides playing the tune at TunePal in every key imaginable, any suggestions on how I might identify these without having to bug everyone?
Thanks! I'm using Finale SongWriter, which can export to Music XML, and from there I can use EasyABC to create ABC's I think. Good idea, I'll start on that.

More tunes to name
Hi all,
I'm back with 3 more unidentified tunes I have heard at sessions. Since I last posted I've become a TunePal addict and it's identified nearly every tune I've needed a name for, but three tunes have slipped through. With any luck, one or more may not yet be on thesession.
I've transcribed sheet music for them here: http://jeremyfinney.blogspot.com/2012/01/tunes-without-names.html
Any ideas? (Thanks!)

Re: More tunes to name
Good stuff, thanks! I've updated the site. That leaves just tune 2.

And tune 2 is Con Cassidy's http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1570 in G rather than A.

Re: More tunes to name
I know the 2nd one as Paddy Fahy's (in D). Anyone know who Matt Hayes is/was.

Re: More tunes to name
I just added a new unidentified tune to the page.
(It was originally performed on harp, so my interpretation of the melody line might be a little off.)

Re: More tunes to name
Matt Hayes was a musician Billy Clifford got a a lot of music from, including this one, which he named for him.

Re: More tunes to name
I've had to take down the 4th unknown tune - turns out it's copyrighted. Too bad, it's a good one. No tunes left to identify.

Re: More tunes to name
JayFin: Nice site. Any chance of posting ABC versions of the tunes too, or are you using some other program to transcribe them?
