You play what you eat...

You play what you eat...

Does diet influence your Trad Irish music playing?
Does one play better reels on a diet of cabbage and bacon or maybe playing reels in London would be improved with a boiled beef and carrots diet. And what about jigs? Could Thai Chicken Curry or Tamil Squid Khottu improve our jiggy-ness? What about Lamingtons or Curry Goat?
It is an established fact that copious stout ingestion improves all tune types except slides in F and light reels in Gmix and you can’t get a better tonic for your playing of Rakish Paddy than a Long Island Ice Tea with a side of Chicken 65.
Fiddle playing is helped my eating lots of mushrooms and witchitty grub fondue which is opposite to the best diet for pipers which is grilled giant land snail, fricassee of sea cucumber and paya Lahori style.
Many box players over the years have proved that feasting on cardamom flavoured rice pudding and biscuits and gravy unravels the wonders of ornamentation but too much bratwurst and pickled onions causes their twiddley bits to deteriorate.
I know a flute botherer who only ever eats peanuts. I think this has caused his playing to improve in leaps and bounds from the days when he exclusively ate rhubarb tart.
What do you think?

It’s obvious that gobbling tabs of windowpane has affected your writing not one whit, yhaalhouse. I would love to hear your playing.

Play the flute for 110 years on a diet of cow gland exudate:

Re: You play what you eat...

I knew a recorder player who did away with the need for bore oil by blowing pork scratching fumes into his axes at the start of the evening.

Any harmonica player will tell you that you will not play well if you have recently consumed a dish heavily reliant on peppers. Cooked or raw, mild or hot, listen to Shaw, it matters not a jot. Half your sucks will be blows.

Did you ever hear the joke about the racehorse named "Toupee" who went on ahead and won the race? (thanks to Spike Jones And His City Slickers)

I wrote a slip in C, I'll reckon that'll be the dark porter?

Re: You play what you eat...

Fidkid- I would never do a windowpane because the gelatine may be pork based and I don't eat swine.
This a tab of windowpane though: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/o/opeth/windowpane_tab.htm

I find that eating and playing the whistle are best not done simultaneously.

Re: You play what you eat...

Tieing two of the above threads together is the race horse named “Hoof Hearted” . . . and oh, how the world thrilled to the announcer’s call as that noble steed thundered to victory:

As to the original post, I note that when I eat string cheese it sometimes makes me more likely to throw in sarcastic and annoying 7th chords when playing backing.

The race horse named “Hoof Hearted”...

As per, "The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey"... :-)

Re: You play what you eat...

I imagine that someone on earth over the last 20,000 years or so will have played a dung flute.

But I can't be bothered to look in Wiki.

And Toothpaste got squeezed out on the rail while Long Underwear fell down behind in the same race in which Toupee went on ahead and won the race.

Although Hot Poker was hard to handle, didn't Whitewash stick to the rails all the way round in that race only to be beaten by Elastic on the stretch

Banjo and Fiddle were neck and neck,
Fluteplayer rather blew it,
Concertina was in there, right down to the wire.
PintGlass came up empty again.

Bodhran got bumped.

(my apologies to Master Spike)

Thoroughbred horses have such interesting names, don't they? Their names are almost as bad as mine.

Slightly Mad Scientist - That clip was great!

As I said, I could indeed imagine it being done. Still a surprise to see proof - even if it might be only spoof proof!

Figs for jigs.
Eels for reels.
Hares for airs.
Slidey eggs.
And lots of old chestnuts...

Syrup of figs for jigs.

[for those overseas, a "syrup" is a hairpiece - syrup of figs = wigs]

Are we going a bit "East End" here?

(Not that it's a bad thing, just wondering if thread got a bit tangential. Shocking.)

Interesting take on Irish music. Will make sure to hunt for the best places in cities I visit that serve the best Irish food. Might discover great Irish music playing!
