I have been looking up some airs and I can't seem to find some great ones for fiddle. Can anyone give me some airs and a place to find the notes for them?
Do you mean slow airs? If so, there are loads of them that go great on fiddle. You'll hear plenty of people say that you can't pick up this music (meaning Irish trad) from dots - that you have to learn it by listening. IMHO, it's much much more important when dealing with slow airs. In fact, for my money, it's a distinct advantage for a lot of them to hear them sung, and learn them from that. Try looking for some decent Sean Nos singing, for the ones with words (a lot of them) and some really good playing for the ones without - like Ronan Browne playing Port na bPucaĆ (which also has some words somewhere) on pipes.
Methinks you can't have been looking too hard! There's lots of great recordings of slow airs on fiddle - you'd do worse that listen to Joe Ryan's recording An Buachaill Dreoite or any of Matt Cranitch's..
Irish Airs, any ideas?
