nednog, sorry for the 1st post which was intended to be in jest. And while I haven't heard either of the following recordings, I'd be very surprised if they aren't good. Is this more what you're hoping to find?
I had a great version by a band called Eavesdropper many years ago. Not exactly trad, but I've loved the tun ever since. Tried to introduce it to the local session, but only one person had heard of it, and his version was slightly different to mine.
The performance of John Cage's "Organ2/ASLSP" features chords held down for a year or two; the piece will be concluded in 2640. That qualifies as Long Notes, I'd reckon. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/06/arts/music/06chor.html

Re: The long note
Which one? What's the key? Just one note? Or a chord?

To Tonya,
That link is just to an orchestral practice - I'm looking for a link to the tune - The Long Note.

Re: The long note
There's also a good version on this album (possibly the same Jolyon Jackson/ Paddy Glackin version that Tonya mentioned): http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/1091

As a set dance this melody is a bit tepid, the old pipers called it Jenny's Welcome to Charlie and played it in proper rhythm as a reel. http://www.legalsounds.com/download-mp3/a-gaita-de-foles/bagpipe-music---the-drones-and-the-chanters/seamus-ennis-jenny's-welcome-to-charlie/song_1926211 No, not the fiddle reel of the same name. And neither is played in G.
