It's a very good tune.
I like the way the second and third develop from that lovely simple first part.
I'm going to learn it too, with your permission, as I'm always looking out for good, new three part tunes for the 48 bar dances we play for
"I'm always looking out for good, new three part tunes for the 48 bar dances we play for"
Unless I'm mistaken, Geoff, there's a missing beat at the end of the 3rd part. Presumably you'd have to make a small adjustment there for it to fit a dance.
Thank you very much for taking the time to listen , and for your feedback. I certainly was not expecting as much "good" feedback as has been shown, so thank you all.
I'll second that - it's a great tune. It reminds me more of the kind of tunes that have come out of the English tradtional dance scene in the last 30 years or so than anything Irish.
I think the music sits well with the 'old photos' I love old photos and I'm also nearly 100% sure that back in the 1970s I often played tunes with the fiddle player second from right in the 'Dunhallow Orchestra' photo. He was in his eighties then. The way he holds the fiddle on his chest is how I remember that particular gent. Dunhallow of course is in North County Cork (My wifes country) He was the local Tailor and lived in the same street as my in- laws.
Tune For Mad Mary
Tune For Mad Mary
Hi
Me and a mate put a tune together for one of Dublin's old Charachters, hope you enjoy. Any feed back would be great aswell.

Re: Tune For Mad Mary
The people we usually play for wouldn't notice and usually have two left legs so a missing beat would be an advantage.
I take your point though CMO.

Re: Tune For Mad Mary
The photos (other than those clearly showing Dublin as a large city) remind me of Durham c.1960.
Both settlements seem to have revelled in their own decay.

Re: Tune For Mad Mary
You've really got to stop hanging around with FIDDLE4 though Stephen as you have got a touch of the apostrophes.

Re: Tune For Mad Mary
I think taht's a good tune and should be spread also as an abc via our board! So it will end up to be canonival in the world of the session....
