Nice melody playing but to be honest, I did not think the accompaniment was doing your tunes any favours. I think the guitarist should back off a bit, play quieter and less "strummy," and really think about the chords he's using and how he's complimenting,or not, the rhythm of the tune.
I think Emily was being diplomatic about the guitar playing .
I would suggest you get him or her ( difficult to see on the dark video) to watch lots of you tube clips of gutiar player playing irish tunes . Dennis Cahil or John Doyle for instance ( there are many others )
I don't quite see the point of posting a video so badly ( ?atmospherically ? ) lit that one can't see the performers clearly. A soundfile would have done.
And I agree totally re the backing instruments; they are lacking in both harmonic relevance and rhythmic enhancement.
I'm sure much of these problems stem from both your current inexperience and a lack of local role models to learn from. Keep working at everything.
The guitar sounds awful. He must be out of tune or playing inappropriate chords. The bass sounds OK, I think the guitar being out of tune and following the Bass rhythm more or less makes the rhythm section sound bad as whole. It's not too "strummy" necessarily but his rhythm remains static through different parts of the tune that need emphasis in slightly different places. I think the mandolin player could work with the guitarist and help him figure out the changes. Also if there is some sort of overdrive on turn it off.
First I want to thank everyone for your advice, we started playing this wonderful music only six months ago and we know we need to work hard, we also do not have experience, in this area we do not have anyone who can give us advice (we are from southern Italy, you know tarantella, pizzica, taranta?). our only teacher is youtube! For this reason, your suggestions are important to us.
This spring we will make a trip to Ireland and I hope that in a few months I will show you videos with our progress.
will try to work on everything.
greetings from Italy

Re: italian group (after six months )
I love the Norwegian Wood intro.
My advice: Play slowly. Play pretty. Keep on keeping on and don't sweat the small stuff.
