Angus Fifes ~ any good?

Angus Fifes ~ any good?

They do cheap wooden Irish flutes. Cheap generally means crap, but I'm just curious if anyone's got any experience with them?

Re: Angus Fifes ~ any good?

Dont know anything about them but I would certainly avoid ash or oak.
I have seen good flutes made from purpleheart though.

Re: Angus Fifes ~ any good?

I've got a rosewood fife in d by him. For the price it's a remarkable instrument, the workmanship is of a high quality and it plays well. I don't know about his flutes, but if they're as good as the fife, I'd say it's worth a shot. He's a nice bloke to deal with.

Oak / ash flutes ~ what's up with them?

Just in case anyone missed my last post regarding Angus fifes: why should flutes made of oak or ash be avoided?
