After an unfortunate enforced absence of two or three months, I finally got to participate in one of our local sessions last night at Khalil's Pub & Grill. Besides myself on my genuine imitation fake piano, there was one fiddle, one concertina, one twelve string guitar, one six string guitar, one flute, one bodhran, one bouzouki, and one four string tenor banjo. Despite this limited instrumentation, we still managed to have a good time and play lots of good music while drinking various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I guess none of the local box players were there because they may have been at a boxing match last night.
Yes, Jon, I am sure they will despite the fact that Khalil's will probably be closed and there will be no session on December twenty-sixth. The next session at Khalil's will probably be held on Monday, January 9, 2012.
I like the idea that the box players were absent because they were at a boxing match the night before.
Is that because they're a bit aggresive in their tastes or is it they mistook 'boxing' to mean playing your box?
Or were they actually fighting and a bit to bruised and bashed to go and play at the session? And why only the box players? Don't the four string tenor banjo players like a bit fisticuffs when it goes off?
Yes, Mix, the woman was playing a tenor banjo (as opposed to a fiver banjo) with only four strings. She also has a six string banjo with a guitar neck which she sometimes brings to the local sessions. This instrument plays like a guitar but sounds like a banjo.
And, no, Yhaalhouse, this female musician is not a violent person. I have been playing music with her for sixteen years and I have yet to see her give into temptation and bash one of her instruments into someone's head despite unnecessary, needless, and uncalled-for provocation.
One of the box players wasn't there because he was sick. He is a retired engineer for the local telephone company who seems to be having more and more health problems as he gets older.

I expect they'll all be out in full force two weeks from tonight.

Re: Session Report
Sorry, date fail, ruined the joke. I meant two weeks from yesterday, of course. For boxing day...

You are forgiven, Jon. I understood what you were trying to say.

Re: Session Report
This thread is too tame. Is it a 4/4 box. a 2/4 box or a 2/2 box?

Re: Session Report
"one four string tenor banjo"

Are those box measurements in inches or feet, Al?
