Rambling Rick Coyne R.I.P.

Rambling Rick Coyne R.I.P.

Bail ó Dhia oraibh! Greetings and Blessings to all!

It is with great sadness that I inform Members here of the passing of “Rambling Rick Coyne”.

A wonderful, sprightly, energetic man who conquered some of The World’s greatest peaks, a man of compassion, who in later years shared the most blissful life with his dear lovely Moggie.

Rick didn’t play too much music instrumentally, though he was a dab hand on the old wash board and wasn’t intrusive.

He did, however, make sure that sessions happened. I was a recipient of such generous behaviour, often being guided and taken home safely, some 30/40 miles after playing maybe in Bristol or somewhere up on The Mendips.

Simply, he loved it, and in so doing he put as much into a session as any of us who do play an instrument.

In his later years, with fingers crippled with arthritis from some of the hardest climbs imaginable he set about learning the Tin Whistle. I am humbled that such a lovely man came to me for tuition.

He learned many beautiful tunes, not just from me, and I would share with you all, the incredible moment for me in Bristol in May 2006 when we played “Owen Roe O’Neill’s Lament” and later “The Eagle’s Whistle”.

My friend Dónal informs me that arrangements are Weston-Super-Mare Crematrium 1pm Tuesday after which there will be a le-céile at somewhere between Priddy and Backwell (!!) on the Strawberry line. This I think it might be the converted railway station house around about Backwell that he liked.

He had friends all over and I’m sure that all would echo those rich warm tributes to his lovely lady, Moggie, dear family and friends.

Thank you Rick, rest gently

Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas dá anam!

brian, although i never met the man, nor ever would have, likely, i am very moved by your writing about him. may he rest in peace, and may you find solace in having had the gift of such a beautiful sounding man. and you sound like you were a good friend to him, as well.

Re: Rambling Rick Coyne R.I.P.

Hi, I remember Rick and his washboard well although I have not seen him for a few years. I also remember his tales as a climber as well as a musician, although I am a mere hill walker and not really a climber.
I can't make Tuesday as I will be at work but I am sure he will attract old friends from all over to see him off.
