The Secret of Roan Inish musicians

The Secret of Roan Inish musicians

I just saw the film The Secret of Roan Inish for the first time, and I've been wondering who the musicians who recorded the soundtrack are, especially on the traditional tunes. I've looked through the old discussions on here and found lots of tune names and notations but couldn't seem to find this information. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm just curious is all :)

I'm sure it tells you at the end of the film. I'll have to watch it again sometime.

From a description of the CD of the sound track:--

"Original score composed by Mason Daring.Performers include: Marie & Cormac Breathnach, Mell Mercier, Ronan Browne, Aine. The soundtrack from the critically acclaimed new film by celebrated director John Sayles features original music composed by Mason Daring, mixed with traditional Celtic folk songs. Popular Celtic artists Maire Breatnach and Eileen Loughnane are also on hand, performing the album's three haunting vocal tracks. Produced and arranged by Daring, the instrumentation includes flutes, whistles, fiddles, Celtic harp and mandocello and the Hawthorne String Quartet. The film itself is an enchanting fairy tale about family tradition and renewal, and this soundtrack captures its essence beautifully. "

American flute player Mark Roberts was one of the musicians who played on that soundtrack.

Re: The Secret of Roan Inish musicians

Thanks, everyone! The info wasn't on the DVD my friend had, or else I missed it. Mark Roberts lives in my area now and he's a great person and player, really cool that he was on this soundtrack. Always good to see familiar faces making a bit of money in a good film to boot :)

I really like this film... and the Music too !.
A great version of Faral O'Gara is heard when they're restoring the cottages on the Island....there's also bits and pieces of the Musical Priest , Shores of Loch Gowna and The Butterfly..

Re: The Secret of Roan Inish musicians

On the track, Fiona (also known as The Butterfly), the whistle (or is it a flute?) player begins the tune with some kind of ornament on the first note and at the start of subsequent lines. It lends a charm to the whole tune but I don't know what it is. It doesn't sound like a cut. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it is or hpw to play it?

Re: The Secret of Roan Inish musicians

Sounds like a cut and it's a flute.
