Hohner Atlantic IV De Luxe - in need of a caring home
Hohner Atlantic IV De Luxe - in need of a caring home
No, I'm not giving this piano accordion away, but my wife says I have to sell it. This was my da's. Was, he died from multiple cancers, including brain stem, and this last one even robbed him of his hearing, completely. He purchased this new in the 50s, but he quickly progressed to playing the organ and this poor orphan barely got a squeeze since, except by me on visits. It is complete, even down to the case and the enclosed literature, except for two fixing screws for the grill which in my youth I misplaced. It is so interestingly put together that curiosity called and I had to take it apart and see what made it tick. I've had it apart again since it arrived here and it is in excellent shape.
I'm seeking interested parties, more likely for convenience sake here on these islands, Britain. Please, no Nigerians in Nigeria need apply. I've already suffered that scam in the past. Also welcome would be some ideas as to how to go about finding it a nice and appreciative new owner, home. Some idea of value would also be welcome, though I have done the usual Internet search and written a few squeeze aware friends too.
It's a sweet instrument, nicely voiced, but, just in case you aren't familiar with old instruments, meaning accordions, the wax can become brittle with age and the need for a rewax isn't uncommon, as too the replacement of the valves, not really major surgery. This is a lovely squeeze, there's just no room in our flat for another instrument, especially one so large, and I have to be careful of my image. My wife got threatening when I started playing it in the house, and she's the one that says I have to sell it.
One of the lovely things about this model is the 'mute', an amazing louvered kind of set up behind the grill and operated by a slide on the grill. It doesn't just mute the instrument, but, as one would expect, also affects, softens the tone overall. It's lovely. Every piano accordion should come with such a mute out of respect for the rest of us with less potential POW!...
I hope it doesn't become general knowledge that we've got a piano accordion in the house, the embarrassment of it...

I got your e-mail, ceol - I'll try and get back! I too am fed up to the back teeth of West African scammers attempting to access my scanty wealth.

I imagine you shoul be able to sell it on these islands (including Ireland, Cape Clear, Sherkin etc.) or maybe in Britain

What, ceol--worried that the Nigerians will find out where you live and start sending you more accordions?
