It really, really reminds me of a song I first listened to around twenty years ago on a record of "English Folk Songs." I thought it was covered by Steeleye Span, but I couldn't find it on YT. Any thoughts on the song/singers I'm remembering? And is it original Irish?
It was printed in a song book published by English Folk Dance and Song Society in the sixties, entitled .....Marrowbones,
and was popular in the English folk clubs around that time.
And as for "original Irish" and Clancy Brothers, folk songs have a slippery way of travelling around. Their highly popular Holy Ground is actually a song called Swansea Town.
The Old Woman of Wexford?
The Old Woman of Wexford?
I've just learnt this on whistle:

Answering my own question
I listened to my first link again and picked up on 'Marrow bones.' I really should take more time..
Anyhows, which do you prefer? Another dumb question, as they're both great!

Re: The Old Woman of Wexford?
it was that steeleye span album that got me in to ITM way back in 1973 or so and so for me that's the better version of the song
