Heading to Philadelphia...

Heading to Philadelphia...

I'll be in Philadelphia next week, and I'm wondering where to find some good tunes. I searched the "sessions" part of the website, but all the postings seem pretty old. Any suggestions?

I thought this was another cheese thread at first.

Re: Heading to Philadelphia...

As far as I know the main ones still going are Fergie's on Saturday, Plough and the Stars on Sunday, and Shanachie on Tuesday (search under "Ambler"--not too far outside of Philly). From what I recall each session offers something a bit different. Fergie's tends to be a smaller session, so a bit more personal, Plough tends to be a bit larger, and Shanachie I think tends to be somewhere in between.

Is Tir na nOg still going? That was a nice session the time I went.

Welcome to Philadelphia

These are sessions I've heard of within about an hour's drive from Philly (somewhat depends on where you're staying – some are very close). I’ve taken out ones that are only once or twice per month & won’t be next week when you’re here. Haven’t been to all, don’t know if some are still going, so you might want to contact them first.

If anyone knows for sure that one is certainly defunct, please chime in.

And Rudall, as far as I know, the Tir Na Nog Philly session is still happening, but it’s the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, which wouldn’t be next week, so I didn’t include it.

Re: Heading to Philadelphia...

Sad to say, the legendary long-running Billy Briggs session at the Tir na nOg in Trenton has been cancelled by the owner (Mrs. Briggs), allegedly because it interferes with the people watching football (soccer) on the TV.

The imported night-time live performers are still there.

Feel free to write Margaret O'Donnell-Briggs at
1324 HAMILTON AVENUE
TRENTON, NEW JERSEY 08629

or call (609) 392-2554.
