hi im using 2 sm57s for the piano accordian at the moment they are doing the job but was interested in the long thing that straps on over the sound hole what make, price etc and are they any good thanks
Check for AKG mikes... a lot of box players used them, and they're really good and long-lasting : I've had mine for 10 years now (even more....gasp!), and the sound is real nice...
I trust that this conversation has to do with miking for performance or recording. As member of the "unplugged" movement for many years, for sessions and acoustic play amps and mikes should stay in the closet at home.
That being said, as a part time sound engineer (for lack of a better word for those of us who learned otj) there are times-few, far between and only wneh needed) that the electronics are appropriate.
Nikita is right on with the AKG recommendation. Nice clean sound with a bit of warmth particularly for reeds. Even though I prefer Shure for vocals and the SM57 is a great mike for most instruments though I really like it for woodwinds and guitars.
thanks for the replies i lke the joke by the way,akg would be could job they tend to be a little more on the bass i think anyway does any of yas like the strip mic that clips on?
I asked a box player friend who has a nice amped sound and he said he used these mics:
Pair of AKG C-416 (and a B-29-L preamp) these clip swan neck mics have attachment points on the box.
T-bone CC-75 (swan neck/clothes peg fitting) used as a bass strap mic.
Only go for the microvox solution if you are on a tight budget - I'd go with the AKG solution as the profesional choice - you pays your money and you takes your choice . . .

Reminds me of a joke.
Q: What's the best pick-up for a banjo?
A: A Ford F-150.

Re: pickup/mic for accordian
microvox M405 or M410 for right hand side, M400 for bass side and standard microvox power unit
I've been using this stuff for six years and can't fault it

Don't know if that helps you.

Re: pickup/mic for accordian
AKG C516 ML. AKG recommends two of them actually for the accordian. Excellent mic.
