I don't care at all for the timbre of the low whistle, and I didn't listen past about 15 seconds because the whistle was rushing on to the next note without giving the last its full due. I hate it when that happens, it just ruins the whole experience of the tune for me, and I couldn't bear it on this one because Eleanor Plunkett is such a great piece of music *when you don't rush it.*
For me the tune doesn't work with that drawn-out* low whistle sound, thought the accompaniment was nice. The harp renderings offered by youtube had me wanting to pay the tune; that version did not.
* 'drawn-out' may be the wrong expression, I could be hearing what Will says. On harp (and guitar etc) you get the attack and then the note fades before the next notes comes with another clear start.

Re: Eleonor Plunkett
Very nice indeed. Three and a bit minutes might have been enough.

I seem to be in a minority. Does anyone have a preffered one they can give a link to?

Best version I've heard (multi-instrumental) - quite easy on the whistle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7yxHzYmG4I
