I would just like to praise the album, "Tuned Up", by Brendan Mulholland, Brendan Hendry, and Paul McSherry. It is really one of my favorite cds. This is great ITM music, really. They are all three excellent musicians, and sadly they are pretty underrated. They are top notch, and they deserve way more publicity than they get. I would check out the cd if you have never heard of it or them.
There is a problem though ... (well, not a problem really, as I'll explain) ...
While agree that ... yes it is great traditional Irish music and all three are top notch excellent musicians, and maybe they are pretty underrated and maybe they do deserve more publicity than they get ... I can't agree that they are remarkable. I'd say that though their standard is high, there must be hundreds and hundreds of players, possibly thousands, who play this music who are just as top notch and excellent.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not being negative in any way and I'm not dissing these guys in any way, I really do think they are great. But I alsI think it's a marvelous and wonderful thing that there are so many players as good as this.
I agree in a sense Llig, but I don't think many flute players can top Brendan Mulholland. I have been listening to him a lot lately, and he is superb. I haven't heard too many players on his level, but I live in fiddle country.
