Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Using ABC Explorer, it wants spaces before and after your triplets, or it will bar the notes all together. You only need one pipe ("|") with a colon. That will give you the normal repeat bar line. Apart from those quibbles, very good!

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Hm...maybe. I think I could equally well call it a hornpipe. I generally think of a barndance as having more phrases of long single notes; Lucy Farr's barndance is a good (maybe extreme) example.

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Also, forgot - nice tune! :D

Innocent Bystander -
Great name by the way,
but I fear for you on here - lol...

Thanks for this info, I always do this at the end
( :|| ) I thought It looked more like music score. Now I know is wrong, ' Its to be Corrected ' Many Thanks.

Danjo
I wondered about that a bit too, maybe I should make it a Hornpipe ?
Thank-you also -

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

No reason why I couldn't dance a Barn Dance to that tune, and I learnt to dance a Barn Dance in the halcyon days of the Ceili Dances. I always think that a good example of a Barn Dance tune/tempo is 'The Stack of Barley'

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Hearing it, I'd say itnwasba reel, but then I prefer my hornpipes bouncy.

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

I don't know a great deal about dancing, so Free Reed may well bne right about its being suitable to dance a barndance to. But I'm inclined to agree with the earlier posters that, in terms of its phrase structure, it souds more like a hornpipe - and a very nice one, at that. IN fact, it is one of those hornpipes that would sound equally good played as a reel. (Reavy's 'The Street Player' http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2739 is another good example of such a tune).

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Nope, at least from this side of things, I wouldn't call it a barndance, but it's a sweet tune and makes it as others have suggested. I don't quite believe your notation of some of those triplets. I'd have to hear what exactly your playing, but I doubt the way you've notated it does it justice. Here it is back at you simplified a little away from those weird bits ~

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Are people leaping around in groups in silly costumes?
Is there a caller with the band ?
Are there loads of straw bales everywhere ?
Is there a barbecue at the interval ?
If the answer to all these questions is "No", then it's not a barn-dance.
Simple.

PS I'm playing my first one for ages; must brush up the old jokes.....

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

I just made a fresh batch of barbecue sauce. Now where did I put my bib overalls? Where's this happening GP? Are you going dressed as a pirate?

Re: Is this a Barn-dance ???

Jim, I've only just caught your recording, lovely. It works as a fling, but halved, not doubled, and your playing gives it that feeling. I'll set some time aside and try to do it a better transcription, but later. I'm fighting computer gremlins again and need a rest from that battle. Here it is halved, as a highland fling ~
