Re: Chord Hat

Chord Hat is a delightful invention that provides the most humorous and gentle assistance with the problem some folks who join us for session have of enjoying playing a chordal instrument, but not playing chords that match the song.

This loon devised a foot pedal of three turkey basters with tubes leading up to a hat and a party snakey trumpet on the end of each, and marked with chord letters D A G, which pop up when he steps on its respective baster.

People just learning a new instrument will probably not gain much support from this device because their eyes are still fixed to their hands by force beams. The visual distraction would cause their hands to falter due to the interruption of the beam of control, making things much worse.

This would probably be helpful experienced musicians who join in sessions while drunk or stoned and decide to get interpretive. It may make them stop playing entirely as they dissolve in laughter and gape in awe....

Re: Chord Hat

Another good one featuring yet more turkey basters:

Re: Chord Hat

I didn't know that ejsant had already posted the link to this video. I recently heard about this from one of my regular musical partners-in-crime (a banjo player who likes to play bluegrass) and posted the link because I thought some people might enjoy this. Before I posted the link, I did search the discussions for "Chord Hat" and when I didn't see it, I went ahead and posted the link. Judging by the comments from the previous posting by ejsant, several people did enjoy it.

Re: Chord Hat

Laurence, I must have missed this the first time around, so thanks for posting. I got a good chuckle out of it, and it brightened my day!

Re: Chord Hat

It's well on the way to becoming a classic.

Re: Chord Hat

AlBrown, I missed this the first time around also. I didn't know this video even existed until last Monday when I was playing my acoustic bass at a jam session and a certain banjo player told me about it. This is an acoustic session which is held once a month on the third Monday of each month and is hosted by a music teacher who plays several different instruments.

Re: Chord Hat

And if he hits the wrong chord, it is called putting ones foot in it.

Yes, that is an accurate description Stephen.

Re: Chord Hat

Johndsamuels, thank you for posting the link to that video. I think it should be recommended viewing for certain musicians (using that term very loosely).
