Re: How many of you are near to Slough, Berkshire, UK?

I was born there, but my parents immediately removed me to Australia 50 years ago. A good thing for me, and probably for Slough also.

COME FRIENDLY BOMBS AND FALL ON SLOUGH!
IT ISN'T FIT FOR HUMANS NOW,
THERE ISN'T GRASS TO GRAZE A COW.
SWARM OVER, DEATH!

- John Betjeman, English poet, 1930s

(Full poem: http://www-cdr.stanford.edu/intuition/Slough.html)

I get the impression Betjeman didn't like Slough. But it may have improved since, and I should imagine choirs of its citizenry compete to produce the most expressive versions of this well-loved poem.

I'd be happy never to hear MFAFH ever again. And what do this trio you showed do if the box-player is sick ?
Why not have three melody players ?

The Herschel Arms is definitely the place to go.
Always lots of top players there regularly.
Monday night 9 onwards.

Re: How many of you are near to Slough, Berkshire, UK?

Greetings Frank!

I did a little bit of looking round and found that you've done some nice sets which have been posted on You tube. You did them in some Gallery. Why not post some of these here?

The two posts you've made just showcase this tune, yet you have a lot more to offer.

Maybe other people also might find them more appealing than MFAFH; for what it's worth I totally endorse Guernsey Pete's comment above concerning that.

Regarding other comments about Slough, I recall all too well having to depart Somerset at 5am to travel across to Slough to work on the roads and get home again about 7.30pm, all to pay the bills. My word, it was hard, dangerous work, and sometimes I found it really hard to get my fingers relaxed enough to play a tune on the flute when I got home.

People interested in the origins of the modern human might find some interesting building blocks just down the road...no I don't mean Windsor, isn't Lego based at Slough?

All the best Brian x
