Workshops at Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Longford
Workshops at Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Longford
Anybody heading towards Longford this week(end) for the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival? Apart from the concerts and sessions, there are also workshops on Saturday and Sunday: http://www.johnnykeenan.com/workshops.htm
Disclaimer: Yes, I am involved as I have two workshops about the fingerstyle possibilities on open tuned tenor banjo (GDae => AEae). Note that I will NOT cover the fingerstyle execution of Irish traditional music, as played e.g. by Gordon Johnston, but rather the sound of three-finger roll, Travis picking, and "old-time" frailing. More info as well as the handouts from 2009 workshop are at http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/157944 . Fingerpicks will be available.

OOPS - I misspelled the tuning.
GDae => ADad, i.e. open D tuning, which btw. shares the strings with DADgad guitar tuning.
I am normally using DGdg, but as I will be in the Irish banjo territory, I will use ADad which can be derived from GDae.
