Looking For Chords

Looking For Chords

Hello Folks,

I have been working on the song..."Amhran A Leabhair"
I have played it on my penny whistle and I am now trying to work it out on the mountain dulcimer. The drone sound is great.

I think I have the chords worked out but was wondering if anyone knows the chords to this tune.

What does the name mean? How do you pronounce it? And if possible do you know the story behind the song.

I have been playing this song as a set with "Fig for a Kiss". Do you have any other set suggestions?

Re: Looking For Chords

Laura - I looked for and found this tune in JC's Tunefinder - I ran it through ABCMUS and it looks like it is all Em and G - I have not tested it out - if I get it to sound right I'll post the ABCs here.

Re: Looking For Chords

Hi there,

The title of your song is generic, it means "song from a book." "Amhran" means song, it's pronounced "ow-ron," and "leabhair" means book, it's pronounced "lov-har."

As far as chords for the song are concerned - one of the most fun things about playing this kind of music is the chance to reharmonize and use the chords that you come up with for each tune. Just make sure that they're diatonic, blah blah - that they sound good. If they sound good to you, there are no "right" or "wrong" chords, per se.

Good luck
