Stormy Tunes

Stormy Tunes

Well, here on the northeastern coast of the USA, we are preparing for what they are saying could be the storm of the century. So I was trying to put together some tunes for the occasion to keep my spirits up. Should I play South Wind? Or Wind That Shakes the Barley? Or maybe the Rolling Waves?

Re: Stormy Tunes

The Thrush in the Storm is a lovely, uplifting tune.

Re: Stormy Tunes

I am hoping I am still feeling playful in a few days. At least, being an acoustic musician, I will have something to do while the power is out...

Re: Stormy Tunes

Al, do you have enough batteries, canned stew and soup, and water? I hope this is over quickly...

Re: Stormy Tunes

'The Windy Gap' is one of my favorites. Any tunes for the east coast earthquake AL? Earthquakes, hurricanes....I'm surprised we've not heard more from the end time crazies what with 2012 looming......

Well, just in time, Shanty:

John-This guy claims to have altered the path of hurricanes in the past (with the help of God, of course). Too bad we couldn't put him on a boat in front of Irene and let him try.....

Re: Stormy Tunes

Is this a wind up?

# Posted on August 26th 2011 by Weejie

Re: Stormy Tunes

I suppose A Blast Of Wind might be in order, though I've always assumed the title had a more bodily connotation than meteorological.

Re: Stormy Tunes

@ Shanty. Great idea. The result could only be good.

We'd finally see which is the bigger blowhard, wouldn't we?

Re: Stormy Tunes

Porthole. The Kelp was a ship that was wrecked near Spanish Point, and one of the portholes was found on the beach, I think by a friend or relative of Bobby Casey.

Also, but not a tune unless played as an instrumental, by that vehicle rental maestro Don O'Van "Catch the wind"

All the best

Re: Stormy Tunes

Maybe next week we'll be singing, "Wasn't that a mighty storm, blew all the people all away."

Re: Stormy Tunes

How about the sunny banks, or Always Look on the Bright side of Life (Not trad, but Monty Python is obviously a classic). Perhaps playing happy tunes will warn off the storm clouds. But then again I'm hopelessly optimistic, positive and boarding on naive.

Re: Stormy Tunes

Stay safe btw. Hope all our east coast friends weather the storms & earthquakes you poor things. You're tough out though.

Re: Stormy Tunes

If you are up for a song, I like "Ready for the Storm" by Dougie MacLean. Yes, a bit modern folk, but appropriate. I like the versions done by Deanta ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pK02USyU8M ) and Rich Mullins ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_FznQW1xrI ).

Re: Stormy Tunes

BTW, best of luck Al and all others on the east coast. Here in Maryland we are starting to get bits of the leading edge. My family will be playing songs and tunes together when it really hits tonight, maybe by candle light if we lose power.
