Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
The local police don't take such a proactive stance here but we haven't seen or heard any rainsticks, shakey eggs, or didgeridoos at our local sessions for many years now.
I'm astonished! Becuase when I've been in Oregon the only newspaper I could get was the bloody Oregonian. I search high and low for anything else: New York Times, a Seattle paper, let alone a week old London Guardian. My mate who lives in Pacific City said it's a conspiracy so you all only get one set of propaganda.
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
yhaalhouse, when you hang out in the back of beyond that is Pacific City, you don't need a newspaper. Especially the NYT. Gives the natives ideas, and then chaos reigns. Besides, the Oregonian has the NYT puzzle. What more do you want?
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
The Oregonian is an embarrassment, but so is the Globe. It's a shame that there's only one newspaper worth reading in the States right now. Another reason to hate Murdoch, the Journal was a decent paper until he got his hands on it...
And Michele - the Oregonian's NYT crossword, like the rest of its news, is a week out of date...
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
Yes, Jon, but that means that we can tap into the cosmic consciousness of those who have already solved it, and thus do the Friday puzzle in ink. With impunity. Besides, with the news being what it is these days, a week one way or the other doesn't seem to make much difference.

What else would you use for a crossword puzzle? A toothpick?
Come to think of it, that would be a bit of a challenge.
"with the news being what it is these days, a week one way or the other doesn't seem to make much difference. "
That's for damsure. I think the Times is going to go to
"Anarchist republican nutjobs still preventing economic recovery" as their daily headline. That'll save a few bucks, I guess.
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
Yes, Ebor_fiddler, there are two or three bodhran players who show up at the local sessions with distressing regularity. Amazingly enough, however, all two or three of them all have enough sense not to all try to play at the same time.
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
About ten years ago, I went to San Antonio, Texas to visit with family. While I was there, I sat in and played at a local Irish Session which had not one or two but three female bodhran players. Yes, all three women played at the same time and they actually were together and kept an amazingly steady beat.
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
Oregon sounds rather nice. I get an impression of something like a sanitised Himalayas - huge mysterious rain-forests, mountains miles high, oodles of weird and wonderful stuff, with the plus that the sanitation and food and water aren't likely to kill you before you've so much as left the airport.
But I also have an inkling that if I went there to large it and bum around and busk and stuff I would before too long be impounded as a Useless Mouth, possibly ending my days being tipped into the sea to feed killer whales for the passing entertainment of a solipsistic True Green elite aristocracy.

In the UK's 'Daily Mail' the equivalent would be 'Bodhrán bashers threaten house prices'.
Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
@ nicholas, yes, it's better than that, but the rain forest is but a pipe dream in Bend, which is more or less high desert....dry as a bone most of the year.

Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
The City of Bend takes a proactive stance on ridding the town of annoying instruments:
http://www.bendbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110819/NEWS01/108190409/-1
This would explain the surprising absence of rainsticks, shaky-eggs and didgs at our local session in that last few months.

I bet you still get bodhrans though.

The London Guardian? I think you will find it is the Manchester Guardian!!

Re: Here's why we don't have session wreckers in my town
'The Guardian' dropped the 'Manchester' part of its name in 1959 and has been based in London for the last 47 years. Do keep up at the back.

I could make good use of a session taser. Brilliant idea. Zap.

How about a session.org taser for the "Internet Employment" spammers?

I am told the police tazered a hurdy-gurdy player in Whitby this week (breach of the peace).
