Ciaran Curran bouzouki looks like ‘some pup of an instrument’, anybody know who the maker is?
So thought if anyone is interested in completing (and expanding )the list of players and the makers it would be helpful.
Ciaran Curran (Altan):
Donal Lunny : Did play Stefan Sobell early on
Johnny Moynihan:
Andy Irvine: Stephan Sobel
Alec Finn: Greek Bouzouki
Michael Holmes : Paul Hathoway??
Brain Mc Donagh:
Brendan O’Regan
Manus Lunny
Niall O’Callanain:
Guy from Oisin
Ruben Bada:
Zan McLeod:
Declan Corey (Galway Based Player): Joe Foley
Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
Oh btw 'm looking for a new bridge for my crappy bouzouki and I would like one of these, ive seen the same ones fitted on Ozarks, Ricmonds and Aisling Bouzouki's but have tried in vain to find them for sale on the internet.

You can't just buy a bridge and plonk it on, it has to be adjusted and fitted to the instrument. And if you can do that, then it's just as easy to make one from scratch.
And you really don't want a bridge like the one on that Richwood you linked to, believe me.
Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
Lunny plays a Nelson bouzouki. He used to play abnett allright which are great.
Eoin O'Neill plays a Foley.
The fella from Danu used to play a Fylde but seems to have switched to a new maker.
Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
The 'fella in Danu' as you put it hhold is Eamon Doorley and he plays a Foley and has been for a number of years but yer right that he used to play a Fylde. Andy Irvine does not only play Sobells he also plays various instruments like Fylde mandolas and bouzoukis, a Trillium mandola, and a Davy Stuart Bass Bouzouki.
Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
Indeed Eamon Doorley does play a Foley as Why Bother? says, as Joe made one the same for me. It uses a different bracing system to his standard bouzoukis to give it more bass.

Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
I could be wrong but I think Manus Lunny plays two bouzoukis - one by Joe Foley and a red one by Jimmy Moon.

Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
The bouzouki in the video that Ciaran Curran is playing looks like a Sobell.

I think Ruben Bada plays a Sobell, but I might be wrong.

Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
Ciaran's instrument is indeed a Sobell. He at one time had a gorgeous Sobell mandolin as well...

Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
I don't think Donal Lunny played Sobells. I know he had one of the early Abnetts.
Michael holmes plays Crumps
I think Zan McLeod has (at the least) one of Rich Westerman's from the 70's and a Stephen Owsley Smith.

If you can't track down a bridge I could have a go at making one.

Re: Bouzouki Players and their chosen Instruments.
Donal Lunny has for some years now played a bouzouki and matching guitar made in Japan by (I believe, could be wrong) Yairi.
