Incredibow waiting time

Incredibow waiting time

I've ordered an incredibow; it is done. I am not, however, expecting it to arrive this side of 2014. Anyone who's bought one in the past, how long do you think you waited for it to arrive? Mine is a no frills, and it's being posted to England. So. Discuss.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

Mine took a week or so. I didn't take that long to send it back.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

Different strokes I guess. I had a go on one at Broadstairs (where, coincidentally, i snapped my last bow), and loved it. What do you not/like about it you two?

Re: Incredibow waiting time

I didn't like the feel of the synthetic hair on the strings, it lacked bite, and I didn't like the fact that you can't adjust the hair tension to get the feel and tone you want.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

Just to lob in a couple of comments,

1) We have waited quite a long time for ours - so interesting to know what happens in your case, and

2) if there's a problem with "bite" it could be you are using the wrong rosin - you need to use Andrea Solo or similar - don't know what you're using but definitely a cheap rosin (Hidersine or that ilk) really won't work at all with these bows.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

I tried one once and didn't like the sound of it. Screechy and thin. It's fine for people who primarily play other instruments, but if fiddle is your main concern, get a real bow that will bring the best possible sound out of your violin.

Re: Incredibow --

I agree. For the same price you can buy a wood bow off Ebay that will play and handle much better. The IB is very light, which some people like. I didn't.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

I'll be honest, I've never tried one, but I don't see the attraction.

If you want one because you broke a bow, look after your bow more carefully, and if tightening your bow is really that time-consuming then I hope you don't snap a string, you might go mad.

Also, the claim that because it is so light means that people can come back to the fiddle having had to give up because of pain from playing, more than likely they weren't playing it properly.

That said, it's nice to see some innovation like this. I'm just not convinced.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

The incredibows grand, only poblem I found was in fast and furious sessions where the grip and line of 'sight' was not good enough for me but for my normal day to day style of playing its well handy, always ready, indestructible! ie I haven't broken a hair yet in a few years of playing.
I prefer the quality of my Coda Bows but if I remember the incredibow is a 1/4 of the price of a mid level coda bow.

They take time to get to grips with,no short cuts, youd need to play it for a week or 2 to adjust IMO.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

Smash, I assure you that the only reason I want one is because I like the sound. I snapped my bow through treading on it, not through heavy playing and I rarely break hairs. Anyway! I might be wrong, we'll see how I fare... If it ever comes

Re: Incredibow waiting time

I forget exactly how long I waited but it was several months. I recall that I wrote to see what was going on, and the excuse was that they (she) were (was) snowed under with orders. The bow eventually arrived, the frog and the tip slightly out of line as you look along the hair, so that there is a bit of a twist. There was a blob of adhesive in the middle of the bow, the general finish was of low standard, and I was peeved to find that the fixing method for the hair meant that there was a step at each end, making it impossible to slide the bow off the strings. Given that I rarely do that, however it is not much of a problem.
The bow initially felt 'rubbery' as though it was strung with elastic bands instead of hair, and I was quite disappointed. It came packed with an artificial red rose and a letter, which was a nice touch. I have got used to it, though, and now use it fairly regularly. You have to keep it quite well rosined or it loses grip almost instantly, and I still keep trying to turn the non-existent nut when I've finished playing. It is light and well-balanced though, and serves nicely as a stand-in bow. I wouldn't recommend them, but I wouldn't warn against them either. I think I got my money's worth. Eventually.

Re: Incredibow waiting time

I love my Incredibow- find them much easier to handle than conventional bows. The waiting times have varied considerably as it is a small company and the volume of orders presumably not consistent. However, it's worth it when they arrive so beautifully wrapped!
