I'm selling my Gold Tone banjo, model SS250 FDL Custom.
Bought it brand new in 2007, and have taken good care of it since - it's been very well travelled, gigged, recorded, so there is the usual signs of usage ie. the chrome plating on the armrest has ben worn away, a couple of scratches here and there, only superficial though. It was last serviced by Keith Macmillan in Hamilton, New Zealand, in Feb this year, so is playing well at the moment.
It's very close to the IT-250F advertised on the Gold Tone website, the main differences being that it has a flathead brass tone ring instead of an archtop, and the cloud fingerboard inlays.
I've really enjoyed this instrument, it's solid as anything, and has a good presence in a session, as well as for other styles such as jazz. I recently played a few of Tom Cussen's banjos in his workshop, and found it to be quite similar to his Oyster model, which retails at 2700EUR. The reason I'm selling is not through anything the instrument lacks, I'm just keen to move on to a 19 fret banjo.
Please e-mail if you're interested for images or to talk further: borwick.alex@gmail.com. I'm travelling in Ireland until the end of September.
You can also hear some recordings of the instrument:
If I remember correctly, this model has the JLS #12 tone ring in it. the JLS #12 is one of the best made (I have one in my TB-7 tribute) that suits GDAE tuning very well. this sounds like a very nice banjo.
