Hi there, Im playing a Fylde bouzouki, and was just wondering what capo to us?
Will a guitar capo do?
I bought a quick draw slide capo but i find it only works from the 5th fret onwards.
My own preference is not to use a capo at all. But I wouldn't use a guitar capo. There are innumerable capos suitable for mandolins, banjos and other instruments with a narrow neck. If you find one that doesn't have anything projecting beyond the top-string side of the fretboard, it will make playing that much easier.
quick draw capo must work also at lower positions, especially because fylde bouzouki have wide neck.......
did you buy quick draw capo for bouzouki or you maybe took quick draw bouzouki for guitar by mistake ?
also on top of quick draw capo you have one screw which you need to to tighten if you want to increase pressure of contact between capo and neck .......

Funny, in chrome on Windows that page forwards me on to some page which tries to load a bunch of ads. I wonder if the breakage is in Chrome or in their webring?
And of course, after having done it three times running, now it just goes to the page and stays there. File under: cannot replicate, assume user error.
They take a few goes to get it on right, so you will get it working as it should.
But watch out because I found with time they mark the back of the neck, badly, hence I stopped using them and when back to the old "Dunlop elastic capo". They are only about 6euros on ebay. Get the one with the clear tube, not the white or black tubes.
I find them the best, and fastest too when changing keys in a session.
If they are good enough for Lunny they are good enough for anyone!
All the best
I use an ordinary Shubb guitar capo on my Fylde Octavius bouzouki - I have sawed the top arm to exactly the correct length. Works very well.
In addition I have cut the rubber sleeve so that there is a removable section where the high string pair pass so i can use it as a complete capo, or only capo the lower three string pairs. Most of the time I keep my bouzouki tuned a tone below normal (FCGD) and capo all strings at the second fret giving GDAE. Remove the cut section of rubber, replace capo at second fret to get GDAD.
Well it looks like the only other people who know what they are talking about here is ocarolan and maracraic. I have a fylde as well and the quick draw capos do not really work on them. The neck on a fylde is too wide for them, I have had one on my for a year and it just simply won't work well and buzzes on the a string so bad it hardly even sounds. I only use it when I am in dire need of a fast change and I generally only capo on the second fret, when not open, when backing tunes.
Like ocarolan above I also use an ordinary Shubb guitar capo and that works fine. I much prefer using this one to the quick draw and if I do not need to change keys I use this one.
Just to make sure no one took offense to my post, Fyldes are not like other bouzoukis so giving advice that works on something like a Foley will not work on a Fylde.
I stand corrected. I've checked out the specs on the Fylde website and, as Why Bother? says, they are not as other bouzoukis. Fingerboard width at nut = 1 1/2 inches!
So yeah, use your favourite guitar capo.
In that case, by all means use a guitar capo, but I would still go for one that doesn't project past the top strings. That idea of cutting the rubber sleeve is a good one, by the way, ocarolan. I'll remember that.
The one that fits.
I don't understand why you need a quick-draw, unless you have arrangements that require many and peculiar key-changes. Even if I'm playing at one of my friends' acoustic sessions, where they sing things in all manner of peculiar keys to suit their voices, a Shubb does me fine. Previously I'd used one of those red elastic ones, which was ok but had less flexibility in the tension applicable, as it was one hole or two only.
I found that the quick-draw for the mandolin actually fitted my bouzouki well and sounds great and seems to work better than the quick draw for the bouzouki.
Is this ok to use???

A Shubb banjo capo works really well, though you cannot do the very fast position changes that a Quick Draw type capo gives you.

I play an ancient Flatiron, and the same Shubb that works on my guitar works fine on my bouzouki.

"Quick draws" come in a Bouzouki version too...

The Quickdraw works beautifully on my Sobell, but it has a relatively narrow neck.
