Dear members of this board,
I must inform you that our fellow member Elto Toorn, (eltjo was his handle here) has passed away on August 2nd in his home in Zuidlaarderveen, Netherlands. He was ill for a while, but the end came sooner than expected, so he couldn't update his membership here himself.
I lost a good friend, and we all lost a music lover who was very committed to the keeping of the tradition. His own heritage was the music from the Netherlands, in special Groningen. But he became very much involved in the Celtic music scene. Eltjo founded a website in 1996 that was a treisure trove of information about anything that happened in the Celtic music scene in the Netherlands. He spent a lot of time updating the gig calender for all folk music gigs, and always up to date lists of sessions, agencies, bands and individual musicians. The website will live on at eltjo.org, with some mp3 and video fragments of his own gigs.
The funeral of Eltjo will be on monday August 8, in Groningen. There will be a memorial session afterwards, contact me for details if you want to attend.
